Overseeding
Overseeding encourages new grass growth, it ensures there is plenty of grass growing, to give a thicker and denser lawn, which in turn helps the lawn to be more resilient as we pass through the seasons of the year.
We recommend an Overseeding after an Aeration and/or Scarification, as these services alleviate compacted soil and remove thatch, allowing new grass to flourish in the spaces created, above and below the surface.
Overseeding in the autumn gives the seed time to establish before the cooler months of the year set in and overseeding in spring will revitalise the lawn after winter, ready for summer.
There are many different types of grass in lawns today, we will identify which type of grass seed is needed for each of our customers lawns as required.
Germination of seed needs the correct ground temperatures and moisture to thrive, if it does not rain the seed will need regular watering to ensure it swells, to germinate. Our lawn technician will advise on the watering requirements for the lawn after an overseeding has been completed.
Overseeding options
We carry out a simple Overseeding process on many lawns, with carefully selected grass seed.
This process uses a manual drop seeder, aligning the seeder to the density of lawn required.
This process is ideal for any lawn, for strange shapes and contours, to ensure we reach each area, corner and nook of the lawn.
For larger square lawns with lots of turning room, we have recently introduced an Innovative Overseeding method, a new to the market Overseeding machine that drills seed into the soil.
Innovative Overseeding Technology works by,
- Cutting open the soil to leave deep grooves in the lawn in preparation for the grass seed,
- Removal of excess soil by casting it in an arch to the rear of the machine so it does not fall into the newly cut grooves,
- Precision sowing carries the seed into discharge channels precisely located above the grooves,
- Injection using air pressure blows air through the seed funnels, so the seed is blown while it is being distributed,
- Rollers immediately follow the seed distribution process and ensure that there is good contact between the soil and the seeds by pressing the earth down,
- Covering the seed with the excess earth as it falls just behind the roller on the sown area, providing a protective layer for the seed, increasing the chances of germination and growth.
The Innovative Overseeding machine can eliminate the need for Top Dressing, although some customers do still opt for both, due to the nutrient rich properties of the soil.
