Scarification

Scarification is a fundamental part of any lawn care plan. It is the process of removing dead grass, surface thatch, and moss from the lawn to allow the lawn to breathe.

Scarifying the lawn allows oxygen and light into the turf, to help the individual grass plant to develop.

Scarification should be carried out at least once a year to remove the matted and horizontal growth that has accumulated around the base of the lawn.

Scarifying may leave your lawn looking a little less desirable, but by carrying out this service whilst the grass is actively growing, means it can recover more quickly, whilst new seedlings grow to cover bare patches and add to the density of the grass plant.

Scarification is generally carried out in spring or autumn to ensure there is sufficient rainfall and warmth to encourage regrowth and recovery.

If the lawn is suffering with moss or is spongy underfoot, it’s likely that it needs to be scarified.

Scarification is a messy business and produces lots of green waste. We will move the green waste to a suitable waste area in your garden, such as a compost heap.

The lawns recovery is helped by warmth and moisture, if it does not rain the lawn will need regular watering which our lawn technician will advise you on after a scarification has been completed.
