Mowing

  • We recommend mowing your lawn every 2 weeks and setting your mower height to be on the top or second to top setting. This ensures you are just taking the top of the grass off on each mow.
  • Ideally your lawn wants to be between 1”-1.5”. Cutting your lawn too short can leave it stressed and allow other issues such as lawn disease, moss and weeds to develop. Most household lawns are for family enjoyment and need to be durable, they are very different to bowling and putting greens which are cut daily and consist of a different type of grass.
  • After each mow, rake over the lawn and collect any lose clippings as this will prevent a build-up of surface thatch which can affect your lawns growth.
  • Check your mower blades are sharp and that any grass from previous mows is removed from the underneath of the mower.
  • Robot mowers have become more popular in recent years. Our advice is to make sure that the mower is set as high as possible and the lawn is not mowed too frequently to allow the grass to grow.
  • If there is a warm/dry period during winter then give the lawn a cut as this will ensure the lawn is not too long for when you carry out your first spring cut.
